Transfer SIM Ownership in Pakistan: Prepare the Right Request

Updated 6 October 2026 · 2 min read

SIM ownership transfer changes the registered customer through the current operator’s process. Confirm the requirements for both customers; porting to another network does not itself change the registered owner.

SIM ownership transfer versus number portability

Transferring the subscriber, replacing a SIM and porting a number are different requests. Describe the intended change to the current operator and ask which process applies. Do not forward a porting message when you only want to change the registered account holder.

Ask whether both parties must attend, what original documents are needed and whether any account conditions apply. Confirm current charges before the visit and retain the receipt.

Before handing over the connection

Update the old holder’s recovery numbers for important accounts and review services tied to the line. Agree which personal information should remain private. Do not give the new user banking credentials, OTP history or account passwords with the SIM.

Verify completion

Ask the operator for confirmation and its expected record-update timing. Check the registration of the connection after the advised interval and follow up with the transfer receipt if the old record remains. A physical handover alone does not demonstrate that the operator changed the registered subscriber.

For overseas or deceased-holder cases, use the family guide and the operator’s specific requirements.

Frequently asked questions
